Grand Performances

By Ace Knuckles | July 26, 2010

Los Angeles is a town of wonders. If you ever find this glorious place to be a bore, you’re not looking in the right direction. The Omni Hotel puts on an event every Friday & Saturday called “Grand Performances“. I didn’t know this existed up until this past Friday when and where I caught the musical stylings of Miguel Atwood-Ferguson accompanied by Bilal, Aloe Blacc, Thundercat, and many more. The musicians performs Jazz renditions of artists such as Ray Charles, Will.i.am, Wayne Shorter, Dr. Dre, Dilla, Guru and many more. Ifyou missed out, you missed out on life. This was a once in a lifetime performance. Experience the event vicariously though my photographs. I would have taken more but they didn’t allow flash. I respect the rule. AS SHOULD YOU!

JazzReggaeFest 2010

By Ace Knuckles | June 3, 2010

How many of you guys actually made it out to UCLA for this past JazzReggaeFest? If you didn’t, you missed out on something extraordinary. Of course I was there and enjoyed every moment of it. Of course I have you absentees covered with photos to live vicariously through.

Hope you enjoy them all!

First we have “The Boogie” I first heard them at Cal Poly Pomona a couple weeks back and thought they were amazing. They spared no level of dopeness with this crowd.

Next we have “Quadron“. If you’re not hip, get there because they turned me into an instant fan.

The Foreign Exchange” also took a stab at killing the stage. I’ve seen them over 5 times already and I’m still good to go when they perform.

Sad to say, Los Angeles doesn’t deserve a performer like “Bilal“. His stage presence far exceeds the level that any resident can withstand. If you ever have a chance see him live, expect a life changing experience.

I’ve seen the other artist live on several occasions so I was excited to see both “Q-Tip” & ”Raphael Saadiq“. I can vouch for everyone and say that they were phenomenal. Guys sang along and ladies almost lost their minds for the two.

I was more than happy to see “Nneka live. Plus she’s half Nigerian so I knew she’d be nothing short of amazing.

Lastly, we have Nas and Damian Marley. Together, they make “Distant Relatives“. I saw them last year at Rock The Bells. If you haven’t purchased they’re album already, make your way to local Mom and Pops record store. These two KILLED the last day of the festival. Amazing. Simply amazing.

If you’d like to see some more of the photos, you can take a gander at my Flickr page anytime. I’m still uploading certain artist photos but there is enough to keep you entertained for the time being.

Believe me when I say there is a LOT more to come. The tip of the iceberg is to come, my friends.
