Last Of Everything Sale

By Ace Knuckles | December 30, 2009

Its been some time since a non-Overdose post. 2009 has gone as swift as it came. With 09 being less than 48 hours away from being a mere memory, we’re trying to purge the DK inventory of all past seasons. There is literally a handful of product left so I’d advice everyone to hop on what you can while you can. Prices are simple: $10 Shirts, $30 Crewneck Sweaters. Don’t miss out. Support small brands.

Just Another Day Out In Rainy LA

By Ace Knuckles | December 14, 2009

This past Friday, I took a trip down to El Mercado (Once again) to support the L&O family. Ian sure does know how to throw a chill Friday night shindig.

Big ups to my brothers at L&O. These guys have been an extended part of DK since the beginning. I’m really glad to see these guys make it. They’re doing an amazing job.

Surprisingly, there was a pretty nice turnout despite the weather. You can never turn down free liquor and $1 tacos.

And speaking of the tacos, here are the chef’s. These guys sure do know how to make a decent quesadilla. This was my favorite photo of the night.

Stay tuned for the next event.

Lucky Strikes Got S.K.A.M.’d

By Ace Knuckles | December 8, 2009

Lat night I attended the S.K.A.M. bowling party.

Look who was there…

Jermaine Dupri was in that photo but you probably could only see the top of his head because of his height.

Good times all around.

Cinematic Experience: Towelhead

By Ace Knuckles | December 6, 2009

Every once in a while, I watch a movie that I truly must recommend to the masses. I recently caught the movie “Towelhead”. The movie is based off of the critically acclaimed novel “Towelhead” (which I’ll be picking up sometime soon at my local Barns & Nobel).

Jasira, the main character, is a sexually curious Lebanon 13 year old girl that seems to have matured physically and also mentally sooner than the other kids her age. Jasira moves from Syracuse, away from her mom to live with her father in Houston where he curiosity broadens

Because of Jasira matured appearance, her neighbor takes a liking to her quite quickly. The feelings are requited as she also falls for a fellow that happens to be a black male. Because of the times (Set during the Gurf War), their relationship is frowned upon by her new love and her father. She also befriends her new next door neighbor that tries to have Jasira best interest at heart, even when Jasira would rather have it otherwise.

All the while this is happening, Jasira has to deal with her fathers strictness and his low level of tolerance for anything that appears to be carnal. Though he doesn’t want his daughter to have certain thoughts and behaviors, he doesn’t set the best example by flaunting her girlfriend around and his causal visits to his girlfriends house. Because the father is rarely home, it gives Jasira the opportunity to feed her curiosity. I’m trying my best not to reveal too much of the plot but its difficult because there happened to be so much going on.

This movies touches the Drama, Comedy, Racial Issues and Love genre. You can’t beat that with a club even if you wanted to. If you do have Netflix, I honestly do recommend placing this movie at the top of your queue. You won’t regret it. Im currently watching a slew on incredible movies that Showtime has lined up for my viewing pleasure so more motion pictures suggestion to come.

Phi’La

By Ace Knuckles | November 27, 2009

Today, I received a text from the Drama Teacher from my Alma Mater, Dorsey High School. He told me about told me about the play that he had wrote and produced entitled “Phi’La being on CBS Evening New with Katie Couric. I remember him telling me some time back post my graduating year about his idea for his play and his plans for the movement. I’m glad to se his vision brought to fruition.

The Story of the play is a modern day version of Romeo & Juliet in the African American/Latino community. Here is the interview that was played today.

The play will begin again February 2010. Support the movement.
