LA To The Bay Recap Pt. 4: Until We Meet Again
By Ace Knuckles | May 30, 2010
Overall, this trip was a 9-10. .5 was taken off for the rain that pummeled me as a made it to SF and another .5 was taken off for missing my flight. Yes I missed my flight. My flight was set to leave at 9pm. As I plan to leave to the airport, Southwest calls my cellular to tell me that my flight was pushed back to 9.50pm, so I leave a little later. Upon arriving to the airport, the attendants tell me that my flight left on time and they’re sorry for the mistake. They ALSO tell me that they’ll put me on a flight for 6am -_-. I had no choice but to sleep in the below zero airport for a few hours. They looked peeved as I turned my surrounding into my portable office.
By the time I woke up (4am), I was ready to get out of this forsaken place as soon as possible.
GOODBYE BAY AREA!
The best part was watching the sun take place above the clouds. There is something magical about it…
… Right up until you arrive into smoggy ass Los Angeles.

LA To The Bay Recap Pt. 3 With Alex Valdman of Hoomroom [@Homeroom]
By Ace Knuckles | May 29, 2010
Along with meeting Benny Gold, I also took the time to meet up with Mr. Alex of the SF based brand Homeroom. This meeting was a double treat because we connected at the Levi Plaza and San Francisco. Me being an owner of a plethora of Levi denim, I fell head over heals for this building.
Alex and I had an in depth conversion about his brand, his history as a designer and Cut and Sew production. He also spoke about what it takes to add cut and sew to a brand which was accompanied by a hand full of tips. The main thing that I took away from our meeting is efficiency is key. This concept applies on so many levels, not just in Cut and Sew but in any aspect of keeping a brand and creating custom material. The meeting was quite insightful.
Between the words of the two fellows, I most certainly feel that Dirty Knuckles is on the right track.
He gave me a tour of the Levi Vault. This room in the building is dedicated to the history of the Levi brand. This was the icing on the cake. If you’re ever in the area, you must take a tour of this place because it will change your denim world. It really opened my 3rd eye to the work and appreciation behind a good pair of denim. You have no idea.
Alex, I’d like to also thank you for taking the time to meet with me. You’ve helped me more than you know in our brief encounter. It most certainly means a lot, brother.

LA To The Bay Recap Pt. 2 With Benny Gold [@BennyGold]
By Ace Knuckles | May 28, 2010
What is a trip to San Francisco without a visit to the new Benny Gold Brick & Mortar location? If you haven’t visited yet, I suggest that you make plans to do so.
I had a little bit of time to chop it up with the man behind the glider plane and SF based brand. I must say that it was quite inspirational to pick his brain. We had some time to talk about the history of the brand, his original plan for the store and much more.
Actually getting this close of a look at the brand helped me get a better appreciation for his work and the streetwear scene. There is a reason that he has one of the most sought after brands this side of the Mississippi. Benny, thanks a lot for taking the time to meet with me. I greatly appreciate it. Until next time.

LA To The Bay Recap Pt. 1
By Ace Knuckles | May 27, 2010
Per my last blog post, its apparent that I spent a little bit of time in the Bay Area. If you know me personally, you know that it’s my home away from home. Something about this inspirational city does it for me in a glorious way that I wouldn’t trade for anything. This time next year, I’m planning on trading in my Dodgers fitted for an Oakland A’s hat due to my change in residency. Yes, I plan on moving to the bay, so I try to visit as much as possible to get acclimated to my future town.
I felt it was only right to take complete photo coverage of my trip so that you all may live vicariously though my imagery [accompanied with a little bit of commentary of course]. Enjoy!
As I began to pack, I relized that there are a few things that I refuse to travel without.
I don’t fly to much so it’s always a treat.
Goodbye Los Angeles!
A flight is not a flight without an onboard drink… [Don't judge!]
A trip to the bay is not a trip to the bay without going to Oakland and Frisco.

Moment Of Clarity
By Ace Knuckles | May 12, 2010
Some of you may know that I recently had a birthday. For my birthday, I purchase a Canon AE-1. I’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it but it never arose. I took it upon myself to make the opportunity. I’ve been having some odd kind of idea block and needed to get out and look for inspiration. So, [Crazy as it may have been,] I decided to take my bike and ride it around LA county. Not the entire county but enough for me to go through a couple of rolls of film. With that said, I’d like to share my viewings with you all. If you follow me on Twitter, then you’ve probably seen some of these already.
This is the route I took.
I started off in Downtown Burbank, then rode to Hollywood. From there I rode through the Fairfax District, South Central, Downtown LA, Glendale and back to Burbank. If you’re from Los Angeles, some of these places in the photos may look familiar to you. Enjoy!

Tomorrow’s My Berfday
By Ace Knuckles | April 26, 2010
Its weird that I’m about to begin another year of life (beats the alternative… death) I’m not big on the celebration but it always quite interesting to look back on your year of accomplishments, lesson, trials and tribulations. All in all, I would have to say that this was a bang up year. Though it’s had its moments, I would have to say its been quite a journey that I can share with the children one day.
With me not being big on the celebrating aspect of birthdays, it makes it incredibly difficult for my friends and family to gift shop for me. I tried to tell them that anything I don’t already have will be good (and i don’t have much so anything will do). I love new things but they wouldn’t accept that. So I decided to compile a simple list of desired that would fulfill any gifting obligations for any season.
1. Amoeba Gift Card
For those who know me know that I love music more than anything and there nothing better than anyway to (legally) get free music.
2. Levis 501’s (33×34)
These are the jeans I grew up on and may die on. They’re timeless like dickies without the hood connotation.
Cheap and to the point. I love them.
4. Dinner at Bossa Nova
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles.
5. Little Brother “LeftBack”
6. Two 25ft. Extension Cords
I recently purchased new lights and I’ll need cord to help me extend my current cords.
7. Money
Money is always good
That seems to be about it. If I were to receive anything on this list, I’ll be an ecstatic camper and forever grateful.
